Wednesday is when the county counts the write-in votes.
I do believe that absentee ballots are looked at then and that ballots can then be challenged and kick-outs (rejected ballots) can be argued.
It's not likely that the unofficial election result will change, but it ain't over til it's over.
Whatever the results, a few things are clear here.
ReplyDeleteThe small clique that controls government from behind the scenes by not giving people a choice at the polls needs to be examined. It has been going on for years but largely unnoticed by the general public. All the people who wrote in David Sutz's name now know.
David Sutz and all the people who supported him, across party lines, from various organizations and businesses, did the community a huge service by not complaining in silence but by becoming active and working to let people know they had a choice and explained how to exercise it. Huge credit to the voting public who took the time to learn about the candidates and how to do a write in. Kudos.
Mr Caruso may have won the votes, narrowly, by stacking the deck in his own favor, but he did not win the hearts of the people of Woodbury. Such a large write in vote in such a short campaign time sends a big statement. Hope the political clique is listening.
It's past time for Republicans to demand open meetings of their party's committee and for Democrats to push for an end to no-show committee members who give Manny a pocket full of proxies to vote as he chooses.
ReplyDeleteHow true. The Republican Committee, under Chairman Caruso, have operated behind closed doors and in the dark for years. Does anyone even know who is on the Committee? And I believe there are no public minutes either so nobody knows how they conduct their meetings. And this is the secret group who chooses the candidates that we have to vote for---unless a write in challenge is done.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting that Mr. Caruso has protested Village elections in June and claims that they should be in November, which would make them more democratic. Where is the democratic example within his own Republican Committee that he has chaired for many years?
Does anyone see a bit of double talk here?
